145,000 Lexus TX and Toyota Grand Highlander SUVs are the latest vehicles to have a safety recall issued. The recall was issued due to the side curtain airbag potentially failing to deploy in some situations.
In certain crash situations involving the Lexus TX and Toyota Grand Highlander, the driver’s side curtain airbag may not deploy, with potentially catastrophic results. The failure is seen when the driver’s side window is down when an accident occurs.
When one of these vehicles is involved in a crash or rollover, side curtain airbags are intended to cover the side window opening and protect the driver of the vehicle. It offers protection from striking the window glass and/or door frame. It also offers protection for the arm, shoulder and head, if the vehicle rolls over. These are big, heavy vehicles and can cause catastrophic injury in a crash or rollover scenario.
It is unfortunate that these luxury, new-model vehicles are already subject to a serious, safety recall. While the media has already reported on the issue, the recall is not expected to be released until mid-August 2024.
